LEGAL BACKGROUND

Jaime is an active attorney and has been practicing in Lucas County in the local courts for going on 17 years! Jaime recently rejoined the Toledo Legal Aid Society (TLAS) office as an Assistant Public Defender. Until December of 2023 Jaime was a Senior Assistant Attorney General for the Attorney General’s Office, State of Ohio, Office of David Yost. Prior to that position, Jaime had been appointed as Magistrate in the Toledo Municipal Court and served as a member of the judiciary for over five (5) years from 2018-2023. During all five (5) years where Jaime served as Magistrate, she also served as the 6th District Representative for the Ohio Association of Magistrates (OAM) Board. During her post as Magistrate, Jaime also maintained a civil law practice, Agnew Law Office, LLC,.

Before her time as Magistrate, Jaime worked mainly as a solo practitioner for her firm, Agnew Law Office, LLC and concurrently served as an Assistant Public Defender Attorney, at the time the focus was to represent mainly youth in the Lucas County Common Pleas, Juvenile Division, but Jaime was also responsible to represent clients in the adult system, as needed. Additionally, Jaime litigated cases in the Juvenile Division for cases of Permanent and Temporary custody, and was trained as an Attorney/Guardian Ad Litem (Attorney GAL) to represent children with active Children Service cases. Part of Jaime’s practice was to represent adults in the Juvenile Court for family law matters, and also represented clients in the General Division Court for Divorce, Dissolution, and Criminal Defense. Finally, Jaime represented clients in the Federal Bankruptcy Court where she was licensed to represent those filing both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Bankruptcy in the Northern District of Ohio. In her early years of practice, Jaime worked for a large, statewide bankruptcy firm as an Associate Attorney, and also worked as a paralegal for a large Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury Firm. Jaime’s experience and legal knowledge spanned many areas of law, and during her time in private practice, she has represented clients in all the different municipalities as well as the General Division Courts for Lucas County for a plethora of different legal issues.

SCHOOL ACCOLADES

Jaime’s first paying job was as a legal intern in the Prosecutor’s Office for Lucas County serving mainly in the Juvenile Division. Before being hired in to that position Jaime was an unpaid legal intern in the same office, having been placed in that position as a Reinberger Scholar in her second year of law school, which she is very proud to say was as a student of the University of Toledo College of Law. In addition to being a Reinberger Fellow, Jaime also was awarded the Womens’ Bar Association scholarship in her third year of law school, and was a quarter finalist for Moot Court. Additionally, Jaime was runner-up in the National Online Dispute Resolution Competition on behalf of UT Law. Jaime was an undergraduate student at the University of Toledo and graduated with a B.S. of Science (concentration in Biology). In undergraduate school Jaime was the Patricia Ann Sullivan scholar her freshmen year, and was a Leadership UT student all four (4) years, which is the scholarship that brought her to Toledo, and was such a great program that she turned down a track scholarship at another university.

Jaime was President of her class all four (4) years of High School and also received the Female Student Athlete of the Year Award at graduation for her accomplishments in basketball, volleyball, and especially track, where she still holds the school record for the 100M hurdles to this day! Jaime is married to her high school sweetheart, Aaron and together they have two amazing sons and three cool dogs. Aaron and Jaime took custody of her brother when he was only 9 years old and he has a beautiful baby girl, so they are (technically) grandparents!

Jaime enjoys civic and community service. Jaime was engaged to support many different charity projects through the OAM Board where she was a member from 2018-2023. In the past, working as a “hugger” at the Special Olympics has been a highlight of volunteer work.
